Scott Tumblety has always been fascinated by nature and by cultures which are deeply connected to the earth. After receiving a degree in geology in 1982, he traveled and lived in various places including Colorado, San Francisco and West Virginia. He returned to New York and lived the “rugged life” in the Catskill Mts. for 12 years. It is there that he learned the craft of “rustic” furniture art.

Since then, he has returned to his hometown of Millbrook, New York. In 2002, he restored an old chapel on the grounds of Bennett College, a finishing school for young women which closed its doors in 1978. He now calls the “chapel” home and there he has lived what he characterizes as a “cushy” life-style in comparison to his time spent in the Catskills. He still holds onto some of the Mountain Ways though ; heating with a woodstove and cooking over an open fire in the summer.

On Thursday nights, Scott can be found playing the saxophone with other local musicians including blues guitarist Kenny Faranda at Mary's Pub & Music Room in Millbrook.
